Get ready for a full day of competition, food, fun and serious lumberjack bragging rights at The Great LumberJack Axe-Off, happening Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Stumpy’s Hatchet House in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Grab your favorite throwing partner, pull out the plaid and put your hatchet-throwing skills to the test in this two-person team tournament featuring a $500 cash grand prize, additional individual and team awards, bracket-style competition and plenty of spectators cheering from the sidelines.

Whether you’re competing or just coming to watch, The Great LumberJack Axe-Off is shaping up to be one of the most unique fall events in Fall River and the SouthCoast.

Tournament Details

Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026
Doors Open: 10:00 AM
Team Registration: $50 per two-person team
Team Registration Deadline: September 19, 2026
Minimum Teams Required: 12 teams
Maximum Teams: 16 teams
Competitors: Ages 18+
Spectators: Ages 6+
Spectator Admission: $10 per person — walk-in only

A minimum of 12 registered teams is required for the tournament to proceed, so teams are encouraged to register early. Space is limited to just 16 teams.

How the Axe-Off Works

Every registered team will begin with a preliminary seeding round.

Each team member will receive 5 scored throws, for a total of 10 preliminary throws per team. The combined team score will determine each team’s seed going into the tournament bracket.

Teams will then compete head-to-head through four rounds of bracket play, with winning teams advancing toward the championship.

You don’t have to win the entire tournament to walk away with a prize.

Highest Individual Score — $100 Stumpy’s Gift Certificate

The competitor with the highest individual score during the preliminary seeding round will receive a $100 Stumpy’s Hatchet House gift card.

Best LumberJack-Inspired Team Uniform — $100 Stumpy’s Gift Certificate

Plaid is encouraged.

 

Creativity is even better.

 

Teams are invited to come dressed in their best lumberjack-inspired outfits. The duo with the best coordinated, creative and downright lumberjack-worthy team look will receive a $100 Stumpy’s gift card.

So yes — flannel, suspenders, beards and lumberjack attitude are highly encouraged.

Come Hungry — Faneek’s Coney Island Hot Dogs Will Be Here

We’re excited to have Faneek’s Coney Island Hot Dogs joining us for The Great LumberJack Axe-Off.

​

Competitors and spectators will be able to grab some classic local eats while enjoying the tournament.

​

We’re also working on plans for additional adult beverage options for guests 21+, so stay tuned for more details as LumberJack Day gets closer.

Spectators Welcome

You don’t have to throw to be part of the fun.

Spectators ages 6 and older are welcome to come watch the action for $10 per person.

Spectator tickets will be available at the door only — no advance spectator registration is required.

For everyone’s safety, spectators must remain in designated observation areas and may not enter active throwing areas.
